An international conference on Russia's political and economic situation will be held in Washington October 14
An international conference on Russia's political and economic situation and its political future in view of the 2008 presidential elections will be held in Washington October 14. The conference - Russia Today, Tomorrow, and in 2008 - is being hosted by the American Enterprise Institute for Public Policy Research, a conservative think tank. Participants in the forum will include Tom Graham, a U.S. special assistant to the president and the National Security Council's leading expert on Russia, national intelligence officer and political scientist Angela Stent, Director of the IMF's European Department Michael Deppler, and Daniel Yergin, chairman of the Cambridge Energy Research Associates consulting firm. Russian delegates will include Mikhail Zadornov of Vneshtorgbank, Russia's foreign trade bank, Andrei Kortunov of the Eurasia Foundation, Yury Levada of the Levada Analytical Center, and Lilia Shevtsova of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace. The upcoming conference will, namely, consider the ability of the Russian liberal opposition to unite ahead of the parliamentary and presidential elections due in 2007 and 2008 respectively, the need for the Bush administration to review its Russian policy, and prospects of Russian economic and foreign policies.
