Ten Russian tennis players will hit the courts Wednesday at Russia's premier tennis tournament
The main match of the third day of the tournament will be between Siberian-born world No.1 Maria Sharapova and Anna-Lena Groenefeld from Germany for a spot in the quarterfinals. Other second round games in the ladies' draw, which has $1.3 million in prize money on offer, will be between Russia's Anastasia Myskina and Magdalena Maleeva from Bulgaria. Russia's Yelena Likhovtseva will take on Patty Schnyder from Switzerland. Russia's Maria Kirilenko will play her compatriot Vera Zvonareva to decide the only to play in the next round. In the men's singles, which has a prize fund of $1 million, three first round and two second round matches will be contested. Russia's Mikhail Yuzhny will play Lukas Dlouhy from the Czech Republic; top seed Nikolai Davidenko will take on Italian Daniele Bracciali; and Russia's Igor Kunitsyn will face Fabrice Santoro from France in the first round of the tournament. Igor Andreyev from Russia will play Arnaud Clement from France and another Russian, Teimuraz Gabashvili, will play Max Mirny from Belarus in a bid to progress to the quarterfinals.
