Russian President Vladimir Putin at a meeting with participants in the Liberal Program for the New Century: Global Outlook on Friday confirmed his commitment to the liberal agenda, the President of the Cato Institute, Edward Crane said after the meeting that lasted nearly four hours. The Russian president stressed the need for the freedom of mass media and conditions for their development in a liberal-democratic society. Former Estonian Prime Minster Mart Laar said Putin showed keen interest in all problems and aspects of reform. Presidential economics adviser, Andrei Illarionov said Putin was interested in the experience of all countries, whose representatives were taking part in the meeting, provided that experience was positive. Putin thanked all participants for presenting their own vision of reforms in Russia. He said the responsibility for making decisions would in any case be born by the country’s leadership.
