Economic cooperation between Russia and Thailand is gaining momentum
Economic cooperation between Russia and Thailand is gaining momentum, the Russian Foreign Ministry's official spokesman said Thursday. In an interview with RIA Novosti, Mikhail Kamynin said bilateral trade had grown by 54.9% in 2004 to top $1.3 billion and that Thailand had been Russia's largest trade partner among the members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in the past few years. Russia helped Thailand cope with the aftermath of last December's devastating tsunami. "Russia's relief aid was thankfully received in Thailand," Kamynin said. "Possibilities are now being considered to develop broader cooperation in preparing for natural disasters and in repairing the resulting damage." The full transcript of the interview will be posted on RIA Novosti's Web site Thursday
