Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev said Thursday that the government of Kazakhstan was not a dictatorship. At a news conference with U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, the president said, "We have political parties, an opposition, free mass media, about 5,000 non-governmental organizations, and presidential and parliamentary elections." He added that Kazakhstan had legislation against corruption. "Under the law, our judicial bodies tried two ministers and a governor in open court, attended by mass media representatives," Nazarbayev said. Secretary Rice arrived in Kazakhstan Wednesday night to meet with President Nazarbayev Thursday.
