Damage from the ammunition dump explosions in Kamchatka is preliminary estimated at 166 million roubles
Damage from the ammunition dump explosions in Kamchatka is preliminary estimated at 166 million roubles, the head of the Emergencies Ministry’s regional department, Anatoly Plevako, told Itar-Tass on Friday. The regional commission on emergencies gave the figure after studying the situation in the settlements affected by the blast wave and scattered ammunition, the official said. The final figure may be higher, he noted. Earlier, the administration of the Yelizovo region, where the incident occurred, estimated the damage at about 70 million rouble, and the military gave approximately the same figure. The fire and explosions at the Defence Ministry’s ammunition dump near the settlement of Yuzhnyie Koryaki, some 53 kilometres from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, began on the night to October 1. About 8,000 people were evacuated from the settlements located within the range of 15 kilometres from the fire. The people have returned to their homes. Work to deal with the incident consequences is going on. The military prosecutor's office is investigating the incident causes.
