Russia intends to conclude negotiations on its accession to the WTO by the end of the year
Russia intends to conclude negotiations on its accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO) by the end of the year, the country's lead delegate said at the start of bilateral talks Friday. Maxim Medvedkov, director of the economic ministry's department for trade negotiations, said: "Now our [Russian] side is sure that we can conclude bilateral talks on access to markets by the end of the year, along with making progress in multilateral talks." Medvedkov said the delegation would discuss access to commodities and services markets with representatives from the United States, Canada, Australia, and Brazil, whose president is scheduled to visit Moscow next week. Russia has held talks on WTO accession with 54 countries, of which 36 have signed bilateral agreements, and still needs to complete negotiations with 13 more countries, including the United States, Canada, Brazil, and Australia.
