Children were among the hostages taken by militants in an Interior Ministry building in the North Caucasus city of Nalchik
in the North Caucasus city of Nalchik, the Deputy Director of the Federal Security Service (FSB) Nikolai Klimashin said Friday. A representative of the local Interior Ministry had reported earlier on Friday that the hostages had been released in an operation and the militants had been killed. On Friday, Vladimir Putin met with Defense Minister Sergei Ivanov, Interior Minister Rashid Nurgaliyev and Klimashin and praised the work conducted in Nalchik. Putin expressed his regret that such terrorist attacks could still happen in Russia, but said the country would continue to take a tough line against terrorism
