Russia believes that the United States has no unlawful interests in Central Asia
Russia believes that the United States has no unlawful interests in Central Asia, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said, commenting on a Central Asian tour of US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice. “We have the common aim with the Americans in Central Asia, as in a region where terrorist groups are most actively trying to stagger stability,” the minister emphasised. According to him, “apart from the fight with terrorism and other criminal demonstrations the US is also interested in access to energy carriers” in this region. “No unlawful interests can be seen here, and we treat this situation this way,” the minister pointed out. In an interview with the programme Vesti nedeli (Week news) on the RTR television network Lavrov noted that Moscow “was following attentively the talks in the capitals that the US secretary of state visited.” “We stressed that Condoleezza Rice called for cooperation with each other, with other neighbours, particularly with Russia,” the minister remarked.
