About 1.5 million tonnes of crude oil and oil products have been confiscated in Chechnya from August through to October
About 1.5 million tonnes of crude oil and oil products have been confiscated in Chechnya from August through to October, the deputy head of the Russian Interior Ministry’s department for economic crimes, Vladimir Mikhailenko, said on Monday. This amount includes more than 600,000 tonnes of crude oil proper, he said. In the course of a preventive operation codenamed Chechen Oil’2005, operatives tracked down 560 facilities for illegal production of oil, he said. Interior officials also registered 1,539 violations and instituted 168 criminal cases. Law enforcers also plugged loopholes that criminal groupings used for siphoning and smuggling of oil products via Chechnya’s border to other parts of Russia, Mikhailenko said.
