Moscow attaches special significance to the development of the strategic dialogue between the US and Russia
Moscow attaches special significance to the development of the strategic dialogue between the US and Russia, including contacts in the UN Security Council, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said at his meeting with the US president’s national security adviser Stephen Hedley on Monday. “Our conversation continues the political dialogue on hot tracks of the meeting of presidents Vladimir Putin and George Bush on September 16,” Lavrov said. He added that the “foreign policy dialogue between our countries is actively developing”. A meeting of the Russian-US working group is planned for December 5-6. Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Kislyak will lead the Russian delegation. “Russian Minister of Industry and Energy Viktor Khristenko is at present holding in the US talks within the framework of the energy dialogue, and we count on practical results of his trip. A meeting of Viktor Khristenko with President George Bush is being prepared today,” Lavrov said. He said he had discussed with US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice at their meeting on Moscow on October 15 important international issues, including the situation around Syria, Lebanon and Iran. “We also have held an exchange of views on the situation in Central Asia, as the secretary of state has completed her visit to this region and I am to visit Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan,” Lavrov said. Hedley called the US and Russia “partners in resolving problems that we shall discuss today”. The process of consultations testifies to dynamism of the dialogue, he stressed.
