Moscow will host a regular session of the Council of Prime Ministers of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Wednesday
Moscow is making its debut as host of the premiers of the organization, which was established in 2001 and includes Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, China, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. India, Iran, Mongolia and Pakistan enjoy the observer status in the SCO. Previous meetings were held in the Kazakh capital Alma Ata in 2001, Beijing in 2003 and Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan, in 2004. The session is expected to consider issues of economic cooperation in transportation, telecommunications, finance, the space industry, aviation, the fuel and energy and the agro-industrial industry. Moreover, the Council will sign an agreement on interaction in alleviating the consequences of emergencies. Given the backdrop of the recent earthquake in Pakistan, the issue is particularly urgent, a Russian governmental source said
