State savings bank Sberbank increased its net profit by 43.3% in January-September 2005 to 48.3 billion rubles (about $1.7 billion) from 33.7 billion rubles (about $1.2 billion) in the same period last year, the bank said Thursday. Sberbank's pre-tax profit reached 63.3 billion rubles (about $2.2 billion) in the first nine months of 2005, up from 43.1 billion rubles (about $1.5 billion) a year ago. Sberbank's shareholder equity rose to 239.3 billion rubles (about $8.4 billion) in Q1-3 of 2005, compared with 164 billion rubles (about $5.8 billion). Sberbank is Russia's largest state-run retail bank, holding more than half the country's household ruble and foreign currency deposits.
