Laboratory tests did not confirm the bird flu virus in poultry in 3 villages of Altai territory
Laboratory tests did not confirm the bird flu virus in poultry in Seliverstovo, Volchikhinsky district of the Altai territory where 52 domestic birds died at five farms on Wednesday. “The quarantine will not be imposed for this reason, the Emergencies Ministry does not control the epizootic situation there any longer,” an operational duty officer of the emergencies department told Itar-Tass. The Russian veterinary service reacted perfectly in conditions of the bird flu infiltration in Russia, head of the Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Control Sergei Dankvert emphasized. According to him, the penetration of the bird flu virus in poultry farms was not allowed. 4,500 birds died of bird flu, about 180,000 birds were killed on bird flu infection suspicions. The Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Control warned that the whole European part of Russia may be exposed to a bird flu threat next spring over the spring migration of wildfowl. “The situation is difficult, but regulated given security measures are observed,” the head of the federal veterinary watchdog pointed out. The quarantine is still in effect in three settlements in the Altai territory – the district center of Novichikha, Pokrovka of the Bayevsky district and Gryaznovo of the Tyumentsevsky district. The bird flu virus is detected in blood tests of 166 birds that died there. All other poultry should be killed, more than 800,000 roubles are paid in compensations of losses to local residents from the territorial budget, another one million roubles are assigned for measures to fight a bird flu outbreak. Poultry began dying in the territory since July 27. The second bird flu outbreak began late in October, wild duck is a bird flu carrier. The quarantine was imposed in 18 districts of the territory for the period of the bird flu infection, about 3,000 domestic hens, duck, geese and turkey cocks died, another 20,000 had to be killed. Preventive measures cost more than seven million roubles. “The bird flu virus will certainly come to Altai next spring. The tensest situation will emerge in places where people have contacts with wild and domestic birds,” the territorial department of the Federal Service for Consumer Rights Protection and Well-being indicated. Specialists believe that the main measures to prevent the bird flu infection is the restricted access to poultry farms, the constant ecological and virologic monitoring of migrating birds and the forced killing of domestic birds after their contact with infected wildfowl.
