Russia will have the first-ever high definition television channel as Europe-1 and Asia-1 satellites are put to orbit
Russia will have the first-ever high definition television channel as Europe-1 and Asia-1 satellites are put to orbit. “The new satellites are being designed at the Applied Mechanics Center under the Eurasia federal space program,” a representative of the Federal Space Agency said. He said the project would ensure drastic modernization of the Russian TV and radio system. Europe already has five channels of the kind. Both satellites are being designed on the basis of the Express 1,000 platform. Alcatel Alenia Space will help to design the satellites’ payload. “Negotiations are underway on the design of two new specialized satellites and a land-based control center,” the source said. The satellites will have SkyPlex digital multiplexers. “Regional television companies will be able to transmit their digital inputs to the satellites independently. The inputs will be combined into a single output and transmitted to the Earth in the MCPC format,” the source said. A Europe-1 model will be put on display at the NATEXPO 2005 exhibition in Moscow on November 16-19.
