The Russian Foreign Ministry said Thursday the terrorist attacks in Jordan were aimed at destabilizing the situation in the country and in the Middle East in general
Mikhail Kamynin, the ministry's official spokesman, said, "We [Russia] strongly condemn the atrocious and provocative terrorist attack that resulted in civilian casualties. The terrorists were obviously pursuing the goal of undermining the situation in one of the most stable countries in the Middle East, along with undermining the situation in the region in general." Three suicide bomb attacks on Western hotels in Amman Wednesday claimed at least 67 lives and left 150-300 injured. President Vladimir Putin has sent his condolences to King Abdallah II of Jordan. "I was deeply shocked to learn about the terrorist attacks in the capital of Jordan, the majority of whose victims were innocent people," the president's message said. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that the terrorist attack showed the global anti-terrorist coalition had to be bolstered and double standards in the fight against terrorism had to be eliminated.
