Two militants suspected of involvement in the October 13 attack on Nalchik, the administrative center of the Russian Kabardino-Balkar Republic in North Caucasus, were detained overnight in Chita region
Two militants suspected of involvement in the October 13 attack on Nalchik, the administrative center of the Russian Kabardino-Balkar Republic in North Caucasus, were detained overnight in Chita region on the border with China, the local interior department told Tass on Friday. It said the militants had confessed. No other details were given. According to unofficial reports, the militants were detained in the town of Krasnokamensk, which made headlines in the Russian press last month after former YUKOS chief Mikhail Khodorkovsky was brought to the local prison to serve his eight-year term. The operation to seize the militants was carried out by Nalchik police and the law enforcers from the office of the Russian prosecutor general. The militants are suspected of attacking a gun-selling shop in Nalchik and of killing local law enforcers. Chita interior department rejected reports that law enforcers were searching for a third suspected militant.
