Russian Information Technologies Minister said that licenses would be given for 3G mobile services in 2006
Russian Information Technologies Minister Leonid Reiman said Friday that licenses would be given for third generation (3G) mobile services in 2006. "We have informed the biggest operators and we will prepare auctions for next year," he said. He also said the ministry was planning a tender for three licenses that would cover Russian territory 100%. But Reiman said there could be more licenses if the necessary frequency became free in the radio-frequency spectrum. Regional operators would not be given licenses for 3G services, which are expected to improve and expand the functions available on cell phones
