Two police officers from the Rostov Region were killed by a mine blast in Chechnya
Two police officers from the Rostov Region were killed by a mine blast in Chechnya. Another five policemen were wounded by the same mine, Tass learnt on Sunday from a duty officer at the Chechen Interior Ministry. The incident took place on Saturday in the Sunzhensky district on a highway near the village of Assinovskaya. While an armoured carrier with police commandos from the Rostov Region was driving along the highway, a mine went off, killing two policemen and wounding another five. The mine was detonated 400 meters from the base of commandos. The wounded include chief of the commandos headquarters, Senior Lieutenant Dmitry Lekhmanov. A Tass dispatch from the Kabardino-Balkaria Republic says that a police officer was killed and another one was wounded in the village of Urvan during a police operation to arrest notorious gunman Alim Tkhakakhov. The gunman was also killed. “Tkhakakhov offered a fierce armed resistance, and he was killed by return fire,” a police source told Tass. The gunman killed Police Major Dmitry Kuznetsov from a special police detachment of the Volgograd Region, which had been sent to help the Kabardino-Balkaria Republic after the attack on Nalchik on October 13.
