Russia is counting on collective support from Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation economies in its bid to join the WTO
Russia is counting on collective support from Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation economies in its bid to join the World Trade Organization (WTO), the Russian foreign minister said ahead of this week's APEC summit in Busan, South Korea. "We expect the Forum participants to support Russia's accession to the WTO and respond positively to its other initiatives (in addition to emergency preparedness and the Non-Ferrous Metals Dialogue, which Russia and Chile co-chair)," Sergei Lavrov said. Russia's accession to the WTO is nearing its concluding stage, and Russian law is being brought into line with the organization's standards. According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, only a small number of contentious issues remain to be resolved.
