The Commander of the Russian Space Forces (RSF) delivered a 2005 summary report Monday at an extended meeting of the Military Council
"Overall, Russia's Space Forces have accomplished the goals set for 2005," Colonel General Vladimir Popovkin said. "The RSF detected all the launches of Russian and foreign ballistic missiles and carrier rockets." During 2005, the RSF issued 31 warnings to respective services about space objects dangerously approaching the International Space Station (ISS), monitored the destruction of 58 artificial space objects and the launches of 79 spacecraft, and detected 82 maneuvers of Russian and foreign satellites. In addition, the RSF supervised the launches of two intercontinental ballistic missiles and 14 launches in the framework of Russia's Federal Space Program. Fifteen satellites have been put into orbit, including six scientific and nine commercial. During the reported period, the RSF staff demonstrated a high level of professionalism and efficiency, avoiding accidents and delays in launches and violations of safety requirements, the general said.
