Russia is ready to take return steps towards strengthening partnership with Poland
Russia is ready to take return steps towards strengthening partnership with Poland, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said. At a dinner in honour of new Polish Foreign Minister Stephan Meller on Monday, Lavrov said, “Russia is ready for return steps towards strengthening partnership with Poland in the spirit of good-neighbourliness and respect of mutual interests.” The Foreign Ministry reported that the sides “agreed that the political atmosphere do not respond to the present level of economic, humanitarian and cultural cooperation and runs counter the major tendencies in Europe’s policy.” On behalf of the new Polish leadership Meller said Warsaw “will do its best to improve the situation.” The foreign ministers of the two countries exchanged views on the schedule of Russian-Polish contacts, including the resumption of the activity of the inter-governmental commission on economic cooperation. They “discussed practical problems, in particular issues related to Polish agricultural products supplies to Russia with the use of falsified veterinary and phytosanitary certificates,” the ministry said. Russia stressed that temporary restricted measures “were conditioned by the need to prevent violations of Russian veterinary and phytosanitary norms for import of foreign goods,” the ministry said.
