The State Duma on Wednesday confirmed Sergei Ignayev as Central Bank chairman for a second term
Ignatyev was nominated for the job by President Vladimir Putin. Ignatyev said the Central Bank plans no radial changes in its monetary and credit policy in the near future. He said the bank will seek to achieve two goals: ensuring gradual reduction of inflation and preventing sharp growth of the rouble’s value. Ignatyev said, however, that the Central Bank can curb the growth of the rouble only temporarily. The bank will also continue to oversee the work of other banks in a “more substantive” manner, he added.
