Contracts for the entire volume of natural gas production in the Sakhalin II project off Russia's Pacific coast have been signed
Contracts for the entire volume of natural gas production in the Sakhalin II project off Russia's Pacific coast have been signed, President Vladimir Putin said Monday. The Russian leader said energy supplies from the Sakhalin I and II projects had already begun. "Particularly, liquefied natural gas supplies to Japan will begin under the Sakhalin II project, and by 2008, the supplies will amount to one third of overall gas production," Putin said. The president named electric and nuclear energy, communications, and joint space exploration among the main issues of bilateral cooperation. "The practical mechanism has been launched, and we will have to maintain it in order to achieve concrete results," the president said. Russia and Japan signed a document Monday outlining the main directions of long-term bilateral cooperation in the energy sector.
