The chemical pollution in the Sungari River is 80 kilometers long and the contamination by various poisonous substances ranges from 2.6 to 30 times, the Chinese General Consulate in Khabarovsk told Tass on Friday. Some 100 tons of pollutants got into the river as a result of a blast at a chemical plant. The Chinese authorities proposed to launch a telephone hot line to keep Russian emergency teams informed about the situation and the expected poisoning of the Amur River, of which Sungari is a tributary.
