A group of Russian experts have met with Zhang Lijun, Deputy Head of the State Environmental Protection Administration of the People's Republic of China
A group of Russian experts, who arrived in Harbin on Monday, have met with Zhang Lijun, Deputy Head of the State Environmental Protection Administration of the People's Republic of China (PRC) to discuss the situation concerning the pollution of the Songhua (Sungari) river, the Xinhua news agency reported on Tuesday. On behalf of the Chinese government, Zhang once again apologised to the Russian side for the ecological aftermath of the Songua river pollution. He reaffirmed that groups of specialists, who are currently at work in Heilongjiang province, will inform their counterparts from Khabarovsk in time of any changes in the river situation. The Chinese ecologists provided the Russian experts in Harbin with exhaustive data on the pollution, including information on the types of toxic substance that had polluted the river, on their concentrations and the pollution belt area. The Russian delegation is led by Viktor Bardyuk, chief of the Khabarovsk Territory environmental protection department.
