The Russian Finance Ministry has made the last debt payment to the International Monetary Fund this year. The $61.44m payment was made in strict accordance with the schedule, sources in the ministry told RBC. Russia has transferred over $2bn to the IMF this year. On January 1, 2003 Russia's debts to the Fund amounted to some $6.5bn. Russian Deputy Finance Minister Alexey Ulyukayev declared earlier that Russia was considering the possibility of paying off its debts to the IMF ahead of schedule by 2006.
