A powerful cyclone killed one man and injured dozens in two days in Kamchatka
The boatswain of the Alagez military vessel died because of an accident caused by the storm. The ship was harbored in the settlement of Zavoikovo near Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, according to Yevgeny Petrov, a spokesman of the Russian forces in the North-east of the country. In Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky 58 people were injured and five of them were hospitalized, the city trauma center told Tass on Friday. Thirty-eight people turned for medical help on Thursday and another 20 on Friday. Fifteen patients broke legs and arms while falling in gale wind. The airport and schools in Kamchatka remained closed for the second day running on Friday, while the fleet is hiding in ports because of a force 7 storm. Weathermen said the cyclone will rage until Sunday, however airport authorities hope to resume the flights already on Saturday. Authorities set up a headquarters to estimate the damage and deal with the aftermath. Numerous billboards, trees and electricity lines were damaged in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, as well as building roofs and windows. Gale wind and wet snow hit the peninsula triggering a sharp 10-15 degree rise in the temperature.
