Nursultan Nazarbayev has again been elected president of Kazakhstan
Nursultan Nazarbayev has again been elected president of Kazakhstan. According to the latest verified figures, he polled 91.01 per cent of the votes, Itar-Tass was told at the Central Electoral Commission of Kazakhstan. It was stated there that the Commission had so far received reports from 9,546 election districts out of the 9,580. Officials of the Central Electoral Commission noted that, according to the latest figures, about 6,850,000 voters out of the total number of 8,880,000 registered electors took part in the voting. Nazarbayev’s principal opponent, president of the “For a Just Kazakhstan” opposition bloc, got 6.64 per cent of the votes. The other candidates, including Member of the Lower House of the Parliament Yerasyl Abylkasymov, leader of the Democratic “Ak Zhol” (Bright Road) Party Alekhan Baimenov, and Chairman of the Ecologic Union of Kazakhstan’s Associations and Enterprises “Tabigat” (Nature) Mels Yeleusizov polled 2.35 per cent of the votes combined. Officials of the Central Electoral Commission noted that more than eleven thousand official representatives of the presidential candidates, more than one thousand monitors from foreign countries, international organisations and foreign mass media were present at the polling stations during the voting. The Central Electoral Commission has still not received reports from thirty-four polling stations in foreign countries, which have approximately eight thousand electors on their lists
