A joint declaration on comprehensive partnership between Russia and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, to be signed at a summit Tuesday
A joint declaration on comprehensive partnership between Russia and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, to be signed at a summit Tuesday, "opens new spheres of cooperation with Moscow's partners in the region," Russia's foreign minister said Monday. "It [the declaration] gives our country new partners, or to be more precise, new spheres of cooperation with partners that we have acquired in this important region," Sergei Lavrov said. The minister said that further development of cooperation with ASEAN would allow Russia to expand its presence on regional markets and "strengthen its positions in Eurasia." The Russia-ASEAN summit, the first in 10 years of bilateral cooperation, will be held in Malaysia as part of an East Asia summit that Russia will attend as a guest. The ASEAN comprises Brunei, Vietnam, Indonesia, Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Burma, Singapore, Thailand, and the Philippines.
