Police fenced off a place of an explosion in a Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky suburb as a result of which two people were killed. There is no danger of new blasts and a fire, Tass learnt on Tuesday at the branch of the Russian Ministry for Emergencies for the Kamchatka Region. There are now five crates which belonged to the military in the past, at a center for reception of non-ferrous scrap, where the accident took place. It is known for sure that one of them contains shell cases. One of cases exploded at a time when center’s workers tried to saw it. The detonation of a primer was the reason for the accident. Investigative teams of the local prosecutor’s office and of police are working at the place of the accident. Investigators of the military prosecutor’s office were also invited to participate in the investigation. Rescuers ensure safety of their work. According to the regional police department, shell cases were brought to the center under a contract with a military unit of the Russian Northeastern Army Group. It is supposed that cases could be brought here from an area of a Defence Ministry munitions depot where an explosion of ammunition and a fire had taken place on October 1. However, official sources do not confirm this information so far. The local commission on emergencies is holding a meeting at the regional administration in connection with the incident. It is examining how explosives were brought to a civil facility, located within city boundaries.
