Police in Moscow detained a man in the case of extortion of five million dollars
Police in Moscow detained a man in the case of extortion of five million dollars, who is also suspected of masterminding bankruptcies of a number of companies, including defense firms. Yuri Petrov was detained as he was receiving a 250,000-dollar bribe in a Moscow restaurant, the public relations department of the Federal Security Service told Itar-Tass on Tuesday. Petrov was extorting a large sum from shareholders of the Podolsk Electromechanical Plant. Investigators said Petrov had demanded from shareholders five million dollars in exchange for his assistance in eliminating tax claims against the company, and therefore stopping the bankruptcy procedure. Searches in his offices found materials "showing the detainee's involvement in bankruptcies of a number of large industrial companies, including strategic ones," the FSB said.
