Vladimir Zhirinovsky has been re-elected to the post of the party leader
LDPR leader Vladimir Zhirinovsky has been re-elected to the post of the party leader for another four-year term at the LDPR 17th congress on Tuesday. "I want you to study one another so as to renew the party leadership at a certain stage," Zhirionovsky said, adding "a leader should not remain in his post to his dying day." Nonetheless, the voting showed Zhironovsky has no alternative to replace him at the moment. After Zhirinovsky made a program speech the other four candidates withdrew from the competition on their own free will. Zhirinovsky had been speaking for about an a hour, moving a pointer on a world map as he explained the fundamentals of geopolitics and his own version of the most important historic events. He declared that the Liberal Democratic Party continues to occupy its own niche that has a rich history and has all chances to repeat its 1993 success at the election to the State Duma due in 2007. Today’s Russia should rely on the historic experience of imperial, Soviet and democratic Russia, he said. The LDPR congress adopted a renewed Charter and approved the party’s program - the fifth in succession throughout the party's 16- year long history.
