The Arkhangelsk regional court sentenced Sergei Alekseichik to 25 years in a strict-regime colony for the blast in an apartment block here in March 2004
Judge Igor Kharitonov who presided at the trial handed down the guilty verdict to Alekseichik for the gas blast that killed 58 people. The court believed it proved that while being drunk former plumber of the city gas supply service opened gas cocks in three apartment blocks in downtown Arkhangelsk in revenge for the dismissal. His actions triggered a gas blast in a nine-storey apartment block in Sovetskikh Kosmonavtov Avenue and the full collapse of the fifth entrance in the apartment block
