Russian President Vladimir Putin signed legislation Friday on the liberalization of Gazprom shares
Russian President Vladimir Putin signed legislation Friday on the liberalization of Gazprom shares. The president made the announcement during a meeting with permanent members of the Security Council. "This is the conclusion of an enormous job done by the Russian government and the company itself," Putin said. Russian First Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said today's decision lifted all the restrictions on Gazprom's shares. "They had been really preparing for it for a long time," Medvedev said. "Now we do not have shares circulating on the stock exchange in such a specific, particular way." "This definitely means that Gazprom has the possibility to attract new investments, including from top foreign investors," he said. "It also means the possibility of extra financial sources on various financial markets as well as the growth of the company's capitalization in the near future." "This is undoubtedly an important event for the stock market, since Gazprom's shares indicate the development of the entire Russian stock exchange," Medvedev added.
