Vyacheslav Platonov died here overnight to Monday after a long and painful illness
Vyacheslav Platonov, a famous Russian volleyball coach who led the national team of the former Soviet Union to win Olympic gold, died here overnight to Monday after a long and painful illness. He was 67. Under his guidance, the USSR's men's volleyball reached new heights, winning largest international tournaments and Olympic Games, while the Petersburg-based Avtomobilist club /now renamed to Spartak/ he headed, won Soviet tournaments and European Cups. The funeral will take place on December 29.
