President Vladimir Putin has signed the 2006 federal budget
President Vladimir Putin has signed the 2006 federal budget, the Kremlin press office said Tuesday. Budget revenue is expected at 5.046 trillion rubles ($189.6 billion) and spending at 4.27 trillion rubles ($148.26 billion). The surplus is planned at 776 billion rubles ($26.94 billion). The GDP for next year is expected at 24.38 trillion rubles ($846.53 billion) and inflation at 7%-8.5%. The 2006 budget was drafted with an emphasis on four national projects in agriculture, healthcare, education and housing and is designed to raise living standards in Russia. The State Duma, the lower house of parliament, passed the law on the 2006 federal budget December 7 and the upper house, the Federation Council, approved it December 14. The law covers the strategic objectives and priorities in the country's socioeconomic development that were highlighted in the president's state of the nation and budgetary addresses earlier this year. The law also stipulates Russia's state debt and the sources of its settlement.
