Sergei Ivanov warned about dangerous consequences of a revision of the Russian-Ukrainian accords on the Black Sea Fleet
Russia's Deputy Prime Minister, Defense Minister Sergei Ivanov warned about dangerous consequences of a revision of the Russian-Ukrainian accords on the Black Sea Fleet. "The Black Sea Fleet agreements are an integral part of the big Russian-Ukrainian treaty of 1997, whose second part contains a provision on the inviolability of the borders. So to subject these agreements to revision is suicidal ," Ivanov told reporters on Tuesday. "The rent for the Russian Black Sea Fleet's deployment in Ukraine is set in the basic agreements of 1997, and remains unchanged until 2017," the minister went on to say. The rent amounts to 98 million dollar a year. In addition, Russia pays for utility and transport services /in maintaining the fleet/ and contributes 60 percent of revenue to Sevastopol's budget, Ivanov said.
