An Amur tiger attacked a local resident in Russia’s Maritime region on Tuesday
An Amur tiger attacked a local resident in Russia’s Maritime region on Tuesday, gravely injuring him, the press service of the regional department of the Russian Ministry for Emergency Situations reported on Wednesday. The incident happened in the settlement of Pavlovka, Chuguevo district. The tiger found way into the backyard of a local resident. His neighbour gunned down the tiger, saving the man from impending death. The man was hospitalised with a serious injury of the hand. This winter it was the first case that a tiger attacked a human. However, in autumn ecologists warned local residents that this winter attacks of tigers were not ruled out, as the year 2005 was a lean year. Deer and boars have to migrate to other regions in search of food, making tigers look for prey in nearby settlements where they attack cattle and dogs.
