Volkswagen AG plans to build a factory in Russia
German-based Volkswagen AG plans to build a factory in Russia with production capacity of 250,000 vehicles per year, The Associated Press cited company head Bernd Pischetsrieder as saying Sunday. If the plan is accepted by Volkswagen's board, which is widely expected, the new assembly plant is to be build in the town of Stupino, south of Moscow, said Pischetsrieder, according to an AP report from Berlin. “In five years we should be able to make a full-fledged factory out of it,» the news agency quoted Pischetsrieder as saying. VW wants to increase its share of the Russian market from 2-3 percent to as much as 10 percent through the new factory. The first model to be assembled there is the Skoda Octavia, The Associated Press said.
