A total of 140 militants, including 25 ringleaders, were killed in the Republic of Chechnya in Russia's North Caucasus in 2005, the local interior ministry said Tuesday. Last year, Chechen law-enforcement bodies detained 311 militants, including 13 leaders of militant gangs, the ministry said. Another 49 militants surrendered to the authorities. In 2005, the republic's law-enforcement bodies destroyed 18 militant bases, 149 arms caches and food storage facilities and seized a sizeable amount of weapons and ammunition, the ministry said.
