The third annual gala concert entitled 'Russian Rhapsody' has concluded in London
The third annual gala concert entitled 'Russian Rhapsody' has concluded in London's Natural History Museum. Guests at the event included more than 500 noted artists, musicians, businessmen and politicians, including Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Zhukov, Finance Minister Aleksei Kudrin, British Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister Bill Rammell, the president of Rosneft, Sergei Bogdanchikov, the head of cognac producer Hennessey, Morris Hennessey, the artistic director of the Mariinski Theater, Valerii Gergiev, Hollywood star Cassandra Gaviola, film directors Andrei Konchalovskii and Sergei Soloviov, television host Vladimir Posner, and others. Performing in the evening were the viola player Yuri Bashmet, the opera singer Olga Borodina, and the Eton College Boys' Choir. Also included in the program were jazz numbers performed by saxophonist Igor Butman. The walls of the museum were transformed into screens on which were broadcast images from Russian history and likenesses of Russian composers, artists and writers. In the evening a presentation was held of clothing collections from Moliere to Karl Lagerfeldt. In addition, organizers conducted a charity sweepstakes of valuable prizes in support of the Russian-British Cultural Association. Guests were presented with silver shot glasses in damask velvet bags in memory of the occasion.
