The parliament of Kazakhstan unanimously approved Wednesday the president's nomination for the post of prime minister
Long-time leader Nursultan Nazarbayev had put forward Daniyal Akhmetov to continue serving as premier, a post he first assumed in June 2003. "The work that the government conducted led to high economic growth rates, while social programs were drafted," Nazarbayev said. "There were no serious mistakes, which is why I am proposing Daniyal Akhmetov again for the post of prime minister." In accordance with Kazakhstan's legislation, Akhmetov, 51, and his government resigned after the inauguration of the president on January 11. The president will now sign a decree allowing the premier to form a new Cabinet.
