Divers in the Nizhny Novgorod region are searching for the bodies of six passengers of the minibus that fell through ice on the river Oka on Tuesday evening
The accident occurred 40 meters from the bank of the river. Nine people succeeded in getting out the vehicle. They alerted the emergency services, Emergency Situations Ministry spokesman Oleg Zugeyev told Itar-Tass. Zugeyev blamed non-compliance with safety rules on the river for the accident. There are two winter crossings in the Nizhny Novgorod region, but they are not functioning because ice thickness should reach at least 30 centimeters. The ice where the tragedy occurred was 15-centimeters thick. In addition, there was a prohibiting road sign and snow breastwork there, according to the spokesman.
