Alexei Kudrin will not attend the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum
Russian Finance Minister Alexei Kudrin will not attend the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF), as he has not received the permission of Prime Minister Mikhail Fradkov, a Finance Ministry official said Thursday. The 2006 WEF meeting will take place in Davos, Switzerland on January 25-29, bringing together the heads of major corporations and political leaders. "In addition to participating in discussions on one of the forum's most important issues - the provision of energy security - the Russian finance minister had planned to hold talks with his French and Italian counterparts on agreeing an agenda for the G8 finance ministers' meeting to be held in Moscow on February 10-11," the ministry official said. Russia currently holds the presidency of the G8 club of rich nations. "Kudrin will now have to arrange work visits to Paris and Rome to meet with his counterparts in these countries, either before the start of the World Economic Forum meeting, or immediately after their return from Davos," the official said.
