Russian figure skater Irina Slutskaya has every right to celebrate Friday morning after winning her seventh European title in Lyon, France, with a sparkling performance. Slutskaya, 26, the defending European champion, finished the competition ahead of her teammate Yelena Sokolova late Thursday evening, making it a good evening all round for the Russians. Carolina Kostner from Italy repeated her achievement at the last World Championship by taking the bronze medal. Slutskaya's victory was the second for the Russian team in two days after the defending champions Tatyana Totmianina and Maxim Marinin won the pairs free skating on Wednesday. Another Russian duo, Maria Petrova and Alexei Tikhonov, took the bronze.
