Two died and 15 were hurt in the explosion of household gas in an apartment house basement in the town of Gus Khrustalny
Two died and 15 were hurt in the explosion of household gas in an apartment house basement in the town of Gus Khrustalny, Russia’s Vladimir region, deputy spokesman for the Russian Emergency Situations Ministry Viktor Beltsov told Itar-Tass. He said the explosion occurred in a five-story house of 96 apartments. The house had a furniture store on the first floor. “The explosion triggered a fire, which swiftly reached the third floor,” Beltsov said. Firemen have urgently evacuated 150 tenants, and the evacuation goes on. Frosts of 30 degrees, Centigrade, complicate the fire-fighting effort. “Water in fire hydrants freezes quickly,” he explained. Ambulance vehicles are on the standby, and investigators have come to the fire scene.
