President Vladimir Putin has said that Russia’s Olympians should feel support in their contesting for medals at Turin Olympics
“It is necessary that the Olympians feels administrative, juridical and medical support, and it is necessary that the Russian Olympic Committee is prepared in this sense,” he said at his meeting with Olympic Committee president Leonid Tyagachev and Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Zhukov on Monday. Putin expressed the hope that Russia’s athletes would not have problems at the Games in Turin like in Salt Lake City. “This time we tried to create maximally favourable conditions for preparation. A very serious work has been done,” Zhukov told the president. “We have the best specialists in anti-doping control. We hope there will be no problems this time,” he added. “Let’s hope. In any case, athletes should not think about that, they should struggle for the victory, and the Olympic Committee should think about all the rest,” Putin said. He said he hoped that Russia’s athletes would show perseverance and patriotism at the Turin Olympics. “The state has given necessary support (to the athletes), business has reacted actively, and help has been significant. At the same time, money decides far from everything. You (Tyagacherv) spoke about perseverance and patriotism. Our athletes were always noted for character and will for the victory. I hope that we shall be witnesses of the expression of these best qualities of our Olympians,” Putin said.
