Leading Russian pipe producer TMK said Monday that the current volume of Ukrainian pipe exports to Russia posed no threat to domestic producers. TMK General Director Konstantin Semerikov said, "I believe that Ukraine's [annual deliveries] of 200,000 metric tons of pipes do not pose a serious threat to us." According to Semerikov, TMK (RTS ticker symbol TRMKG) supplied 440,000 tons of large-diameter pipes to Russian natural gas monopoly Gazprom in 2005, whereas a Ukrainian competitor delivered 215,000 tons. Russia's Vyksun metallurgical plant supplied another 120,000 tons of pipes to Gazprom that year as well. According to TMK's forecasts, the need for large-diameter pipes on the Russian market in the coming years will increase by 50%. "Considering the growing demand for pipes from Gazprom and Transneft [state-run oil pipeline transportation company], there is no danger of pipe over-production," Semerikov said.
