Eight migrant workers have died in a blaze near Moscow
Eight migrant workers have died in a blaze near Moscow, police said Tuesday. "The fire broke out in a wooden hut in the compound of a fruit and vegetable storehouse in the village of Khlebnikovo [near Moscow] yesterday," police said. Eight workers from Tajikistan and Uzbekistan died in the blaze, and two others were hospitalized with burns. Since the collapse of the Soviet Union many people from the Central Asian states have come to Moscow and its outskirts in search of employment. They usually find unskilled jobs, often work illegally and are therefore underpaid. The leaderships of some Central Asian nations have urged the Russian authorities to improve their citizens' working conditions and honor their rights on Russian territory. Police opened investigation into what caused the fire. The prosecutor of the Moscow Region visited the scene
